Strauss's early masterpiece forever solidified his reputation. While massive in scope, Zarathustra deploys the orchestra in a subtle and deft manner. This Lewis Layton/Richard Mohr recording from 1962 is a remake of Reiner's original 1954 performance, taking full advantage of the experience gained by the RCA recording team in the intervening years.
